Super Rare Games has an announcement to make so listen up!
No, they are not being purchased for multi-billions of dollars. And as of writing this, they are not announcing a collection of indie NFTs! Super Rare Games is announcing the minting of an in-house, all-original indie game publishing label called Super Rare Originals!
Today, Super Rare is sharing details on the first five games to launch as part of this new label. They are as follows:
Lone Ruin
Lone Ruin comes from the Swedish creator Cuddle Monster AB, of Hell is Other Demons fame. This game promises to be a spell-based roguelike twin-stick shooter with tons of replayability. The player takes over as an explorer who seeks a mysterious ancient power in an old ruin, built atop a source of magical goop used by olden mages [I hate that stuff!] to power and transform themselves. As you go lower into the ruin, you’ll develop more of your own magic… hopefully, that doesn’t involve using goop!
Completely Stretchy
From the seemingly elastic brain of Dan Ferguson comes short and stretchy… well, Completely Stretchy — a pastel mix between Spider-Man and Octodad. In Completely Stretchy, you explore the vibrant Grombi Isles in a floppy first-person view. Along the way, you’ll meet the eccentric inhabitants of the Grombi Isles, play with them and maybe even learn about the many mysteries there are to be found! You can wishlist the experience now!
The Gecko Gods
Have you ever imagined yourself going on an adventure as the Geico Gecko? If so, The Gecko Gods are for you! Explore a mysterious island as a tiny lizard. Complete ancient puzzles, effortlessly climb cliffs — like Link from Breath of the Wild, climb anything you want — and eat bugs as you make your way across an island civilization lost to time. POST VOID
If you are looking for a challenge to keep you going, Post Void is quite literally for you! In this acidic-coloured, in-your-face first-person shooter, you play an idol filled with liquid. Once the liquid is gone, the party is over! So make sure that you keep it all inside of you. Procedural level generation promises to keep your gaming… well, liquid!
Grapple Dog
Haven’t been able to get over how awesome Halo Infinite‘s grappling hook is? Me neither! Might I suggest to you, Grapple Dog? In the cute 2D platformer you are Pablo the Grapple Dog — a dog that grapplehooks his way through six wonderful worlds with a crew of fearless friends out to stop a robot army. Super Rare Games was started as an indie storefront for selling physical copies of rare indie games that its staff are passionate about. And the hope is that vision isn’t lost when shifting focus to publishing games they are just as passionate about. The play here for Super Rare is to help friends old and new elevate their craft while bringing some personality to the mix. According to a release from the newly-formed publisher that means, “only signing games we are genuinely, personally passionate about; as with all aspects of our business, our main motivator is simply wanting to work on cool things with cool people! While we hope to change the lives of our dev friends, even if a game were to release and break even, we’d still consider it a success to have worked on something awesome and continue to support the game and its developer long-term.”
