Developer Maschinen-Mensch has revealed its next game, Mother Machine. The studio says it is a multiplayer action-platformer with RPG elements.
“At Maschinen-Mensch, crafting games with innovative procedural gameplay is in our DNA. Following the success of Curious Expedition 1 and 2, our team has grown to over 20 very talented individuals,” says Maschinen-Mensch CEO Riad Djemli. “Now, we’re excited to bring our unique approach to the action-RPG genre with our new IP, Mother Machine. We can’t wait to share this new adventure with our community.”
Mother Machine is built in Unreal Engine 5, and you’ll control chao gremlins capable of running, climbing, and leaping through “intricate procedurally-designed alien caves, where no one playthrough is the same.” Additionally, you can extend and deepen the abilities of the gremlins with mutations that alter gameplay to suit your playstyle and desired difficulty.
There are co-op mechanics which allow you to join other players at different skill levels so that you can play with novices or more skilled players. There’s also a soulful world filled with narratives that test the limits of technology, loneliness, and family. In the distant future, on a deserted planet, an abandoned Artificial Intelligence seeks a purpose to prevent itself from breaking down due to loneliness. It devises a solution to create a creature to care for, kickstarting Mother Machine. The gremlins the AI creates are bioengineered and 3D-printed from organic filament. The creatures explore the caves and collect information about the planet’s history and the intentions of Mother Machine.
