Life is Strange’s episodic nature already felt like watching a show, but now the franchise is making the jump to TV, as Variety has reported in an exclusive that Amazon has greenlit a live-action TV series for its Prime Video streaming service.
We usually don’t get plot details this early, but this time it has been confirmed that the series will adapt the first game. Amazon’s Life Is Strange series will follow Max Caulfield, a photography student who finds out she has time rewind powers and uses them to save her childhood friend Chloe Price, which delves into the dark side of Arcadia Bay and a choice that will be interesting to see will be canon for Amazon’s version of the story. The series is set to be written and executive-produced as the series’s showrunner by Charlie Covell, better known for their work on The End of the F***ing World and Kaos on Netflix.
“It’s a huge honour to be adapting “Life Is Strange” for Amazon MGM Studios. I am a massive fan of the game, and I’m thrilled to be working with the incredible teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen and LuckyChap. I can’t wait to share Max and Chloe’s story with fellow players and new audiences alike,” Covell wrote in a statement.
They are not alone, as Amazon’s Life is Strange series will also be executive produced by Story Kitchen with Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson attached to the project. Alongside Amazon MGM Studios, Sqaure Enix, and Story Kitchen, LuckyChap is also producing the show.
“We’ve been huge fans of the visionary Charlie Covell for years, so partnering with them on the adaptation of Life Is Strange is truly a dream come true. Charlie is an exceptional steward of revered IP, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have them at the helm of such an original, beloved and culturally resonant video game. We’re also deeply grateful to be collaborating with our friends at Amazon MGM Studios, Story Kitchen and Square Enix and can’t wait to bring Chloe, Max, and Arcadia Bay to life,” LuckyChap wrote in a statement.
Life Is Strange has been going on since 2015, and since then Square Enix has released more games in the franchise including Life Is Strange: Before the Storm (2017), The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit (2018), Life Is Strange 2 (2018),” Life Is Strange: True Colors (2021), and Life Is Strange: Double Exposure (2024).
