Dragon Quest Producer Yu Miyake Steps Down And Assumes New Role At Square Enix

Per Bloomberg, Yu Miyake, a long-time board director overseeing the Dragon Quest franchise, is reportedly moving to head up the Tokyo-based company’s smartphone games, according to anonymous sources who are familiar with the matter.

At 56, he is poised to take on a new challenge in leading the company’s mobile gaming division. Miyake, who joined the company in 1992, has been instrumental in developing numerous Dragon Quest titles.

As part of an organization reshuffle at Square Enix, which began on April 1, President Takashi Kiryu is course-correcting by shaking up how the company is developing video games. Speaking to investors, Kiryu said that the goal is to focus on more in-house development rather than using external resources.

The last title to launch was Dragon Quest 11, followed by the 2021 reveal of Dragon Quest 12. However, we’ve not heard anything about the future of the series since the 2021 live stream indicating that the next numbered title would shape the future of the series.
