Xbox Partner Showcase

Here’s What We Saw At Today’s Xbox Partner Preview

As promised, Xbox held a Partner Preview Showcase this afternoon, with several games being shown by various publishers.

The Xbox Partner Preview event is available on YouTube, Twitch and ASL.

The Xbox Partner Preview event provided an opportunity to learn more about combat and traversal in Tales of Kenzera: Zau with a video narrated by Abubakar Salim. Also, we got our first in-depth gameplay of Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and we also saw a closer look at The First Berserker: Khazan and other upcoming titles for Xbox, Windows, or Game Pass.

Unknown 9: Awakening

Unknown 9: Awakening by Reflector and Bandai Namco are kicking off the showcase. A brief trailer showcases many otherworldly skills your protagonist Haroona has as she searches for the truth. Unknown 9: Awakening launches in the Summer of 2024.

“You’ll step into Haroona’s shoes following a life-changing loss. At first, revenge is all you’re after, but the Unknown 9 universe has other plans. Before you know it, in addition to seeking vengeance, you find yourself on a globetrotting journey, uncovering powerful hidden knowledge. This puts you on a collision course with the Ascendants, a breakaway faction of a secret society known as the Leap Year Society. Founded by the brilliant and ruthless Vincent Lichter, Unknown 9: Awakening’s main antagonist, this dangerous splinter group intends to use the Fold in ways that could jeopardize the future of humankind,” says an Xbox Wire blog post.

Sleight of Hand

Described as a “hard-boiled third-person steal sim” during today’s presentation, the new title is coming to Xbox and Windows and is being developed over at RiffRaff Games.

Infiltrate the hardboiled, rain-slicked city of Taboo, where ritual magic and cursed artifacts set apart those with power. Sleight of Hand is a 3rd-person Stealth-Action Deckbuilder about taking down the coven you used to run with.

The Alters

Explore an emotional sci-fi game with a unique blend of adventure, survival, and base-building elements. Play as Jan Dolski, a simple worker who creates alternative versions of himself desperately trying to escape from a planet where even sun rays can prove deadly.

Think of the movie Moon, and you can begin to line up how it inspires The Alters.

Creatures of Ava

Creatures of Ava is from Inverge Studios, who joined today’s Xbox Partner Direct to reveal their upcoming game. It is expected to arrive in 2024.

Let your empathy guide you as you play an exciting action-adventure, creature-saver game. Understand and tame the Creatures of Ava and let them lead you through various ecosystems – all in the hopes of saving the planet from a life-consuming infection.

You play as Vic, a human explorer from a rescue team sent to Ava to save all living beings from a catastrophe. To keep them, you must learn the local customs of the people of Ava and build trust with them to help save them.

Roblox x Chucky

A press release from RocketRide Games says Child’s Play’s Chucky is coming to Roblox. Griefville: Survive the Nightmare! was shown today, and it is “a chilling interactive experience inspired by the beloved horror classic films of the ’80s and ’90s,” and it looks like a good time. The trailer is mainly focused on Chucky but it looks like he’s having a ton of fun tearing things apart. “It’s not just about jump scares; it’s about capturing the atmosphere, the tension, and the pure joy of getting lost in a classic horror flick. We are delighted to bring Griefville to Roblox with the best possible partners!”

“The Chucky character is synonymous with horror, and we are so excited to participate in this killer new experience on the Roblox platform,” adds Bill Kispert, SVP & GM, Games & Digital Platforms at Universal Products & Experiences. “Bringing the iconic killer doll frighteningly to life in the game, adds an unexpected twist to Griefville: Survive the Nightmare! and further solidifies the authenticity of the classic horror vibe in the experience.”

The Sinking City 2

A follow-up to The Sinking City, this Lovecraftian survival horror is set in an otherworldly rendition of the 1920s United States.

The first title was a detective game with much horror just beneath the surface of a flooded world. The sequel is looking to double down on horror and expand the combat.

The Sinking City is one of our most successful titles, because of our stronger horror genre leanings and the setting,” Frogwares Head of Publishing, Sergey Oganesyan tells me. “For us, it was kind of a breakthrough, and we are super excited to work on a full-scale horror game. We have created quite a few detective adventures in the past, so now we’re going to mix things up to keep doing what people love from us – meaning story-rich experiences – while still being able to evolve.”

Final Fantasy XIV

Square Enix is bringing Final Fantasy XIV to the Xbox Series on March 21. An open beta is currently available to test out the MMO, with the Starter Edition available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers as a perk from March 21 to April 19, 2024.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Legends of the Zone Trilogy

GSC Game World revealed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Legends of the Zone Trilogy is coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series via backwards compatibility, and it launches today.

The trilogy includes all three iconic games that make up the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Trilogy: Shadow of ChernobylClear Sky, and Call of Pripyat.

“S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has been a PC franchise for a long time, so the key priorities were concentrated around adapting the experience for consoles as a whole (including, but not limited to, native controller support for console interfaces),” explains Bocharov. “We created everything from scratch, ensuring that the game was both easy to control and comfortable to play,” says the studio.

“We wanted to bring S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to consoles for quite some time, and we worked closely with our trusted partners at Mataboo to make that happen,” Bocharov shares. “Despite the new release date for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, we decided to keep S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Legends of the Zone Trilogy in early 2024 to give the players some time to complete the originals before hopping into the sequel. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is a direct continuation of the plot and a standalone title, but obviously knowing the previous events and characters would help you to enjoy certain story moments, nods, and Easter eggs better.”

Monster Jam Showdown

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is coming later this year to Game Pass as Capcom’s latest game was shown towards the end of the Xbox Partner Showcase.

The legendary mountain, Mt. Kafuku, is defiled by an evil force that steals the 12 masks and their special powers. Soh, the protagonist, and Yoshiro, the Maiden with divine powers, join forces to purify the villages and rid them of the heresy.

Each mask, worn by Soh and the villagers, possesses a different divine power that is crucial to protect Yoshiro. As you progress through the game, you will recover more masks by cleansing additional villages and work with various villagers, each unlocked by a different mask. Together, you will bring back Mt. Kafuku’s original beauty.

During the day, you will explore the village, purge defilements, and rescue villagers to join you in battle. Repair contraptions to give you an advantage against The Seethe’s attacks at night. The rescued villagers will fight alongside Soh, and you have the power to decide which power to grant to each villager. Different masks will provide different powers, allowing some villagers to excel at close-range attacks and others to heal your crew. It is essential to think strategically about which villagers to enlist and where to station them before battle. You can use the terrain to your advantage, prepare your positions, and get ready for an epic battle once the moon rises.
