It’s never been officially revealed how much Microsoft makes from Xbox Game Pass (the company has shifted away from revealed sales figures in recent years) but it seems like we may know how much revenue was made in 2021 thanks to a report out of Brazil.
Per Tweaktown, Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) published a document after approving the purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. The document states that the entire Xbox operation generated an estimated $16.28 billion in 2021 while Xbox Game Pass earned an estimated $2.9 billion USD (3.9 billion CAD) in revenue, accounting for 17.8 percent of all revenue earned last year.
The sales figures do not indicate whether or not these numbers include sales of Game Pass for PC. In total, it is said that the Xbox Game Pass service has over 25 million subscribers.
Diving further into the report, we see estimates of other game subscription services including Nintendo Switch Online said to be earning $932 million USD (1.2 billion CAD) making up 10-20 percent of the market, EA Play (a service integrated into Game Pass) said to be earning $356 million USD ($490 million CAD).
