Wyrdsong Announced, From Former Obsidian And Bethesda Veterans

During today’s Gamescom Opening Night Live, the new studio Something Wicked Games announced a new project Wyrdsong. The studio is a new venture for Jeff Gardiner and several former Bethesda and Obsidian veterans who formed a new studio to work on video games. According to Gardiner, he didn’t leave Bethesda looking to open a new studio but the man who worked on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, and The Outer Worlds ended up doing just that.

With 13.2 million in seed funding from NetEase, Something Wicked Games is described as an open-world preternatural RPG.

“Our goal with Something Wicked Games is to utilize our independence and creative autonomy to create the next evolution of open world RPGs,” said Something Wicked Games CEO and Founder Jeff Gardiner. “Our first project, Wyrdsong, has been my dream game for some time now, and I’m thrilled to finally share it today.”

Wyrdsong is described as an occult historical fantasy RPG that is set in a fictionalized Portugal in the middle ages. We know the game is single-player and that’s about all so far, there’s not much else to go on as the game is in early development at the moment.

There’s a great interview at IGN with Jeff Gardiner worth reading about how eve
