We Almost Got Decidueye Instead Of Incineroar And More Tidbits About Smash Ultimate

Over the weekend, Masahiro Sakurai dropped some interesting tidbits about recently released Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch. Speaking to Nintendo Dream, a magazine available in Japan, we learned these things.

First and foremost, we almost didn’t get Incineroar. Instead, the choice was almost Decidueye, a fellow seventh generation Pokemon. Ultimately, they went with Incineroar.

Speaking about including characters from Nintendo Switch games Arms and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, this was because when developing Ultimate, the studio had to finalize a plan long before and comes down to simple poor timing.

Other characters like King K. Rool, Simon and Richter Belmont was inspired by the Smash Ballot, which was something Nintendo pushes back in 2015 for the Wii U version of Smash Bros.

Of note is that King K. Rool is meant to look like a heavy character but instead plays as a medium character. instead, he moves far faster than you would expect a huge character should and has become a favourite of mine thanks to his vertical recovery.
