It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a new game from Japanese developer, Vanillaware but looks like the waiting game might be over soon as their next game has finished up development, according to a Nintenderos interview with Vanillaware co-founder, George Kamitani while promoting GrimGrimoire OnceMore‘s western release.
Kamitani didn’t reveal too much but was able to say that studio’s next game is “one of Vanillaware’s biggest productions” and he isn’t directing it – but is directing the next one after which isn’t in full development mode yet. While the recently finished game hasn’t been officially announced let alone confirmed platforms or release window, in 2019 we did get a look at it in the extra section in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Prologue which briefly teased that the game will have a fantasy focus and is being published by ATLUS.
“In March 2019, for reasons I won’t get into, we released only the prologue of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, but it did include a video of our next title in it. And now, it’s finally finished. While I’m not the director of that title, it’s one of Vanillaware’s biggest productions, so please look forward to it. Lastly, the title I’m working on right now won’t be finished for several years, but once that big title I’m telling you about is finished, I should get some development staff, so [the] development of my project will finally move into full swing,” Vanillaware co-founder, George Kamitani said in an interview with Nintenderos.
Whenever the game is announced it will be an exciting game going off Vanillaware’s track record with games like Odin Sphere, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Dragon’s Crown, and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim which sticks to the studio’s beautiful 2D art style that Vanillaware is uniquely known for.
