Valve’s Steam Machine Confirmed To Ship This Summer

After Valve’s Steam Controller launched for $149 CAD last month, the rest of the company’s lineup aims to launch this summer, including the Steam Frame and Steam Machine.

“Today, we are expanding the Verified program to include Steam Machine and Steam Frame, both of which are shipping this summer,” said Valve in a blog post. While this confirms games are now viable to be verified on the new hardware, Valve did not announce a date for when the devices are expected to ship.

The Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller were revealed last November and tentatively set to launch earlier this year. However, the current AI crisis, created purely by weird techbros, has set the world’s supply of graphics cards and RAM on a rocket-like price trajectory.

For months, Valve’s kept mum on the anticipated devices’ launch dates. Late last month, the Steam Deck‘s price doubled and somehow still sold out worldwide. Pricing is a hot talking point right now, with speculation looking to the current price increase of the Steam Deck.

The Steam Machine CPU uses a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 6c/12T CPU, capable of reaching up to 4.8 GHz, with a 30W TDP. The GPU is a semi-custom AMD RDNA3 28CUs, featuring a maximum sustained clock of 2.45 GHz, a 110W TDP, and support for 4K gaming at 60 FPS with FSR and ray tracing. Valve says the Steam Machine is six times more powerful than the Steam Deck.

The Steam Machine utilizes 16GB DDR5 RAM and 8GB GDDR5 VRAM, features a micro SD slot for expanded storage, and employs an internal power supply with an AC Power Range of 110-240V.

So, with the specs readily available for Valve’s Steam Machine and the current Steam Deck price increase, really, the only thing that’s left to learn is how much this device will cost. Some speculate it might start at $ 1,200 USD/$1,699 CAD. At that price, you’re better off picking up a gaming laptop which offers more in my opinion.
