Firesprite to Take Over Sony’s Rumoured Twisted Metal Reboot

Update: Following the report on January 10th, VGC is now reporting that UK-based developer Firesprite is taking over development on the project.

Firesprite was recently acquired by Sony last year and is also working on the upcoming Horizon Call of the Mountain PS VR2 game for the headset.

In addition to the change in developers, a post on Restera has spotted that Matt Southern, director of some of the Motorstorm series has left his role as game director at Lucid, and now is at Firesprite.

Original Story follows below:

In a new report from VGC, Sony has switched up the developer for their forthcoming Twisted Metal reboot.

It was reported last year that the upcoming title was in the early stages at Lucid Games, which most recently developed Destruction AllStars for Sony.

But Sony’s plans have seemed to have changed, as the project is no longer happening at Lucid.

Instead, the project is taking shape at one of Sony’s first-party studios based in Europe. It’s unclear at this point which European studio is working on the reboot.

This isn’t the only Twisted Metal project that Sony has in the works. Sony Pictures Entertainment is working on a live-action TV series under their PlayStation Productions banner.

The upcoming Twisted Metal TV series is being developed by Deadpool film writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and will star Anthony Mackie in the lead role.

VGC’s sources told them there wasn’t a reason given for the change in developers but could be said that Destruction AllStars mixed critical reception could be a reason. In our review, we said that “Destruction AllStars is fun but it’s best played in short sessions and the moment-to-moment gameplay is fun but it isn’t enough to keep players invested for more than an hour at a time.”
