Trails in the Sky

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st Announced, Launching on Switch in 2025

For fans of the Trails franchise, one of the biggest announcements from today’s Nintendo Direct Partner showcase was that the very first game in the series, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, will be getting a remake in 2025.

This version of the game, known as The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st, has a similar naming style to the third game in the series’ first arc, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd. The game’s developer, Falcom, has been surveying fans for a while about having the Sky trilogy on modern platforms, but it was always a question if they would be enhanced ports of the PC version or not. It seems the developer went another route by remaking the game from the ground up and making it playable in its latest engine, like in The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st will take players to the continent of Zemuria in the southwestern kingdom of Liberl.  Players are inserted into the shoes of the game’s female protagonist, Estelle Bright, who, alongside her adopted brother, Joshua Bright, starts their journey on their test day to become Junior Bracers, thus becoming full-time members of the Bracer Guild. This kicks off a whole journey where the two, alongside other party members, will travel across Liberl, solving problems in each of the kingdom’s five central town hubs.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky was first released on PC in Japan in 2004 and was later ported to PSP in 2006. The game lacked an English release for a long time until it arrived on the PlayStation Store on PS3 and PSVita in 2011. Although it was a less-than-stellar localized port at the time, a better release of the game would come later to PC in 2014, which for a long time was the best way to play the first part of Trails in the Sky.

That will change when The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st launches on Nintendo Switch in 2025. Other platforms have not been announced at this time.
