SEGA Europe and The Creative Assembly announced today that the sands are shifting.
By that, I mean that the pair have officially teased their next entry into the Total War RTS franchise — Total War: Pharoah. Players will take to the turbulent events of the Egyptian New Kingdom period, where they’ll determine the fate of three great cultures as they fight for survival amid the cataclysmic Bronze Age Collapse.
Enter a land greatly divided. The Pharaoh is dead, and the people of Egypt, Canaan, and the Hittite empire cry out for a new leader. Many desire the throne’s power, but the path to becoming Pharaoh is perilous. As the leader of these great nations, you must overcome societal collapse, face natural disasters and fight to protect your people against invaders from far-off lands.
While we only have an announced release in October confirmed so far, the devs and publisher are teasing a diverse character pool and strategy meta. With a choice of eight Faction Leaders from the three rich cultural hubs, there’s a unique playstyle and deadly and diverse unit rosters for each. Whether you’re charming the courts as a peerless diplomat, charging into battle as an unwavering commander or causing chaos as a fearless warlord, you’re sure to become a leader that history will remember.
There is, however, an exciting detail that didn’t make it into today’s trailer: new levels of elemental combat. Ancient Egypt is lush and beautiful at the height of its power, but it’s also dangerous! Lead your soldiers through sudden and dramatic shifts in weather, such as thunderstorms and sandstorms, and witness the tides of battle turn as it directly impacts the surrounding terrain. Beware the threat of fire, too, as battles can become engulfed in flames, striking and spreading across the battlefield as it burns forests and damages the foundations of enemy settlements.
However, with the new Campaign Customization feature, you can control fire, the elements and a lot more. No two campaigns will ever feel the same. Determine how you play with an extended range of campaign customization options, such as random starting positions for all factions, detailed resource settings, the ability to toy with natural disasters and much more. With many options, stack the odds against yourself for an added challenge or become an unmatched power to breeze your way to victory.
Total War: Pharaoh is arriving on Steam and Epic Games faster than it takes to build a pyramid [October 2023]. Pre-orders are open now.
