The dev team at Flying Wild Hog and Crystal Dynamics has taken us on quite the journey through seven episodes of a dev vlog looking in depth at every element of their reimagined Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.
In an eighth instalment out now, the team talks at length about imagining a country of grand history through a city lost to time and beyond belief.
“Greece is one of my favorite levels in the entire game,” Design Director Jason Epps said in the episode. “It’s magnificent to look at. It really feels like there’s a Grecian city that’s hidden and never found, and you’re the first to find it.”
Look, I’ve written a lot of articles about these vlogs now, and I’ve watched them all a few times over. This comment really got my ears perked up because there’s still this split narrative: locations like Egypt and Peru are seen as sites of others’ failed attempts at exploration, while Greece is portrayed as hidden and untouched. Count me as interested in how the world is going to feel.
“One of the coolest things about Tomb Raider is travelling all around the world to solve puzzles,” Game Director Raul Sequeira says in the video. “In Greece, you’re going to solve puzzles themed around Greek mythology, and you’re going to see a lot more architecture somewhere like in Peru. From caves, cliffs, and waterfalls to massive acropolises and different dome structures that you can only get from Greek architecture.”
Fans who are of an older age will also be rewarded with seeing a reimagined St. Francis Folly straight out of the original Tomb Raider. Palace Midas also now appears to be confirmed as Midas’ Temple, which looks every bit as dreamlike and regal as I hoped it would.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis comes to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2 on February 12, 2027.
