Try and wish as hard as you want, but Titanfall 3 is not in active development. I’m at a loss for words since the second game was wonderful and easily the best shooter of 2016, but EA decided to release Titanfall 2 between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: WWI. The game never stood a chance and it was EA’s decision that cost Respawn, but that’s not what this is about.
It comes as a surprise that Respawn not only had a new game in the works but one that we didn’t know about until mere days before launch. Rumours swirled on Friday last week, and it wasn’t until this weekend that the leak seemed more and more likely to be true.
While Apex Legends is a nice treat, most of us are wondering where and when we’re getting a sequel to Titanfall 2. Eurogamer reports that Respawn is focused on developing and expanding their newest battle royale game instead of Titanfall 3. Speaking to lead producer Drew McCoy, he acknowledged this, “There are some people who think there are too many battle royale games or it’s a fad, the world thinks we’re making Titanfall 3 and we’re not – this is what we’re making.”
As for why the silence leading up to release: “Our desire is to be completely open and transparent with our player base, and part of that expands to how we talk about problems, and we understand this game is gonna have a skeptical audience,” basically let the game do all the talking instead of having months of previews and trailers.
I’m all for this approach so let’s see how this plays us for Respawn.
