In case you missed the news this morning – THQ Nordic has agreed to acquire Koch Media. Koch Media is the parent company of Deep Silver and the deal is worth an estimated $150 million USD.
The acquisition now gives THQ Nordic the intellectual rights to franchises like Dead Island, Saints Row, Homefront, Metro, and more. To make this come full circle, the new THQ Nordic now owns many of the IPs the old THQ owned before selling the rights off in 2012 after filing for bankruptcy.
Pretty funny how that works out, I’d say.
Now with Koch Media as part of the family, this brings the total amount of development studios up to 36, with a total headcount of 1,643 employees, and a whopping 50 projects currently in development. Of those 50, only a small chunk has been revealed to the public with much more yet to be revealed.
Koch Media will operate separately under THQ Nordic and happily, no restructuring or cost-cutting is going to happen.
