In recent memory, Max Payne 3’s one of the best endcaps to a trilogy. Thanks to the incredible performances, soundtrack, and mechanics, it’s also one of my favourite games.
I liked the face swap; Max had to look more like his actor James McCaffrey. Alex Savvon, a user on NexusMods, has created a downloadable mod that restores Sam Lake’s face to Max Payne 3.
Released last week, the mod fully integrates Lake into the campaign. Savvon says, “All of the textures of the head have been adapted, and every wound that appears on Max’s face during the story has been saved.” Additionally, there are 14 hairstyles in the story adapted to Lake. There are also 98 models and 66 textures replaced.
Even in 2012, I considered Max Payne 3 to be one of the best-looking games I’ve played and even to this day, it feels like this notion holds. Savvon’s mod is easily one of the best mods I’ve seen in some time, and it does a lot more than surface-level changes to the story.
Wow, this is very impressive work on Max Payne 3 mod @alexeysavvon https://t.co/4xKMZL5w8R

Even Sam Lake himself approves of the mod, stating it was impressive.
Last year, remakes of both Max Payne 1 & 2 were revealed. Remedy is working on Alan Wake 2, which is set to launch in October.
