Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland

The Rugrats Are Back Thanks To Limited Run Games and The MIX

Adventures in Gameland is coming to PC and consoles

What’s old is new again! Or at least for many people in their 30’s and 40’s. Video games are a prime example, with retro gaming communities growing each day and prices of physical games being jacked up to outrageous prices in many cases.

Limited Run Games has been bringing old titles, and some new, to life in physical form for some time. Now, they’re working with The MIX to bring the classic 90’s cartoon, The Rugrats, back to life with a new but retro-inspired platformer.

The Nickelodeon Classic Is Back!

Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland promises to bring the old-school feel back to the PC and consoles, with a release sometime in 2024. There were several Rugrats games over the years, but few stood out as “great” or “classics.” With a modern sensibility, a retro-feeling title may be just what the babysitter ordered for Tommy, Chuckie, Phil and Lil.

Power through high-speed chases, sneak around as a baby-stack trench coat, and destroy buildings on TV as Reptar! Meet familiar faces including Angelica, Cynthia and Spike along the way, and take a trip down memory lane thanks to stunning hand-drawn animations reminiscent of the original TV classic or enjoy the adventure in a nostalgic 8-bit style.

The MIX also mentions in their press release that many unique levels will be complete with secrets and boss fights. Each baby has stats like “jump” and “lift” abilities. There will also be a two-player co-op, though it’s unclear if it’ll be available online or couch co-op only.

Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland can be played in the NES or GameBoy Color-inspired style or in HD Mode, where the audio and visuals are updated. A brief look at the trailer makes it look like the Nickelodeon cartoon is back!

We won’t be able to get our hands on the game here at home just yet, but a first demo for Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland will be available at PAX West at the Limited Run booth.

There isn’t an exact release date for this physical release, but we’ll keep you posted!
