Unreal Engine is planning to release a real-time tech demo this week called The Matrix Awakens. “Get ready for a glimpse into the future of interactive storytelling and entertainment with UE5,” says the Unreal website.
Epic Games says you can pre-load the experience before it goes live on December 9. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss will also be appearing at The Game Awards this year, so we’ll likely see something related to The Matrix at the award show.
“How do we know what’s real?” asks a digital version of Keanu Reeves. The teaser below is brief but it offers us a brief glimpse of what the power of Unreal Engine 5 is capable of and how realistic the engine can get.
Epic Games has been working on projects outside of the video games space recently, working with artists to create interactive experiences including the Kid A Mnesia exhibit available on PlayStation 5.
It’s unclear what we’ll be seeing this week but after nearly two decades away from the spotlight and I’m happy The Matrix is returning in some form, even if it isn’t a new video game.
