The Canadian Videogame Awards Announces FanFest

Each year we are lucky to have our own Canadian edition of the VGX or VGA and this year there is something a bit better than our American counterpart. The CVA is going to be showcasing new video games prior to release and to celebrate our own Canadian developers for the hard work these developers put in.

Reboot Communications and Swaf Media have entered into a multi-year agreement to produce the CVA FanFest, a fan-centric event that is solely dedicated to videogames and interactive entertainment.

The CVA FanFest will take place this year December 5th and 6th at the Mattamy Centre (former Maple Leaf Gardens) with all events open for the public to attend.

Fans will have the opportunity to try out games that will be released prior to the holiday season and meet their creators in the new Fan Zone and Canadian Game Zone. The public will also be able to test their skills against other players in the Videogame Competition.

The event will round out with local bands and other entertainment featured on the main stage prior to the award show on Sunday December 6th, closing out a weekend celebration of the Canadian gaming industry. The objective of the CVA FanFest is to celebrate Canadian gaming and provide a great opportunity for the fans to meet their favourite Canadian developers.

Greg Spievak, CEO of Reboot Communications, says “We are delighted to form a long term relationship with Swaf Media to produce the CVAs and announce the new venue for FanFest.”

“It’s a new beginning for the CVAs. I’m very proud to be a part of it and share my vision with the fans and the gaming community. We are committed to creating a top-notch event for those who love videogames and we are excited to see the CVAs grow in the years to come,” stated Carl-Edwin Michel, CEO of Swaf Media.

“Canada continues to be a global superpower for game making,” said Victor Lucas, executive producer of The Electric Playground and co-founder of The CVAs, “so I’m very excited to see the awards become the best way to celebrate all of the incredible work coming out of this country!”
