thatgamecompany will be painting a game within another game next month, as they bring Dear Van Gogh to their award-winning Sky: Children of the Light mobile game.
Focusing on real elements of the struggling Dutch master’s life, Dear Van Gogh unfolds through letters exchanged between Van Gogh and his brother and patron, Theo. These are exchanges of doubt, wonder and unfailing devotion.
Players will be led through these letters, as well as recreations of some of Van Gogh’s finest works by Theo’s wife, Johanna.
Bringing the art to life in support of exploration and emotional storytelling, Dear Van Gogh has players feel the weight and warmth of a strong family bond that brought the legendary painter from his earliest uncertainties, his Paris awakening, his brief brush with living success, and the unravelling of his final years, leading up to his suicide at age 37.
Dear Van Gogh will be available on July 17, 2026, through the Sky: Children of the Light game app on iOS, Play Store, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC.
