Tekken 8 Sells Over 2 Million Copies in Its First Month

Half of those sales were in the first day

Fans of the fighting genre have been eating well lately. Most recently, with big releases like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8. The latter has seen significant success in its first month since its launch in January.

Bandai Namco Entertainment says it has sold 2 million copies of Tekken 8 in one month. Even if you aren’t a long-time fan of the franchise, Bobby’s review of the game makes a compelling case to check out this latest entry.

Whether you stick to online or offline, the moment-to-moment gameplay is the best the series has seen in almost a decade….it has some of the best moments the series has ever had.

The massive sales numbers are an impressive feat in a genre that has seen some big releases over the last year alone. Bandai Namco says that half the two million copies sold were over the first 24 hours worldwide. A considerable number, to be sure. Street Fighter 6 also sold similar numbers in its first 30 days, while Mortal Kombat 1 saw 3 million sales in its debut month.

The company also says players can expect content updates and music and licensing announcements while a big esports event with Tekken World Tour is just around the corner. Tekken 8 will be front and centre for the 2024 edition that kicks off on April 13th, 2024.

Tekken 8 has seen some blowback related to its digital storefront. Bandai Namco addressed this by saying, “The Tekken Shop is making its way into the game. This in-game shop will provide customization items such as costumes from previous installments, character skins for avatars, and licensed items from our collaborations, letting players put their own touch on their favourite Tekken characters.”

The game is available now on PlayStation5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.
