It was inevitable for the series, as each Mario game has added new ways to prevent death for Mario for some time now, New Super Mario Bros. 2 had me in triple digits for lives, and even purposely die did little to dent my stock.
For me, this comes as no surprise, as the upcoming Super Mario Odyssey will not have a game over screen, and instead is that instead of losing to an enemy and dying, you will lose coins instead.
I’m sure there will be purists who would rather prefer lives and game overs, but, Nintendo is known for experimenting with features, this seems like something right up their alley. As I mentioned, previous games have been easy enough that actually getting a game over is tough and the best way to go about getting one is to goof off and purposefully do it. I’m all for this if it makes the game better.
ちなみに…!コインが9枚以下の状態からミスしてもGAME OVERにはなりません。安心して探索を楽しんで下さい。
