Konami has taken to Twitter to reveal that Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars won’t be launching this year.

“Regarding the planned release of Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, we have reached the conclusion that despite the very best efforts of our dedicated development staff to release the Remasters in 2023, additional time is needed to ensure the quality performance and gameplay experience our users deserve.
The entire Suikoden team is renewing our efforts to bring Suikoden I & II HD Remaster to release as soon as possible.”
Suikoden explores themes of friendship, loyalty, and sacrifice as the protagonist navigates political intrigue and battles formidable adversaries. The gameplay revolves around turn-based combat, strategic army battles, and the construction of a headquarters known as Castle, where allies gather and contribute to the rebellion’s cause.
As the protagonist builds relationships with allies, their stories unfold, offering players a deep and engaging narrative experience. The culmination of the game sees your character facing off against the ruthless Emperor Barbarossa, challenging players to lead their assembled forces to victory.
Suikoden 2 was a direct sequel to the first game and delves even deeper into the lore of the series. This installment introduces a new protagonist, Riou, who is drawn into a conflict that arises from political intrigue, betrayal, and the ambitions of power-hungry individuals.
The game begins with a tragic incident that leads to the separation of Riou and his childhood friend Jowy. As the story unfolds, players are swept into a conflict that escalates into a full-blown war. Amidst the chaos, Riou gathers a cast of characters with their own stories and strengths, including returning characters from the first game.
Many elements returned, such as the 108 Stars of Destiny, strategic army battles, and a sprawling narrative with multiple viewpoints. The choices players make significantly impact the story’s outcome, leading to multiple possible endings.
