Annapurna Stray Movie

Stray Movie In Development By Annapurna Animation

Chris Wedge is also working on a film adaptation of FOO

Just a couple of months from its latest animated release on Netflix, Annapurna Animation is adapting one of its biggest game titles of the last few years.

Stray will be adapted into a feature film with some familiar names: Nimona director Nick Bruno, industry veteran, and Nimona producer Julie Zackary.

Bruno is at the helm and also working on several untitled projects under Annapurna Animation, with previous experience in Spies in Disguise, Rio, The Peanuts Movie, and more. The studio says, “he is actively developing several new original ideas under Annapurna Animation.”

The indie darling Stray had considerable success on PlayStation in 2022 and most recently arrived on Xbox in August. Last year, the game took home several awards, such as Best Independent Game and Best Debut Indie Game.

Stray follows a cat who navigates a future where a city is walled in and populated by robots, machines, and dangerous bacteria. Along the way, you have help from a drone friend as you navigate the world and try to return to “the surface.”

Annapurna says they will be working on future game adaptations, but no work on what those titles will be. Also in development is FOO, the next film project from director Chris Wedge for the studio. Wedge has worked in the industry going back to the first Ice Age.
