Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin Revealed

During Square Enix Presents, the Japanese publisher revealed a new take on Final Fantasy with Team Ninja assisting on development. This is the same game that was rumoured a few weeks ago that we reported on. As it turns out Koei Tecmo’s studio has been hard at work for some time.

Games from Team Ninja usually come with great gameplay but cheesy dialogue. Case in point: the reveal trailer below is about as corny as you’d expect. If you look on Twitter or any Final Fantasy forum, you’ll find good takes like this:

Jack, the protagonist sure does like to say chaos, huh?

In addition to the reveal, Square Enix plans on releasing a trial version that lets players get a taste of what Jack and his allies Ash and Jed can do as they work toward opening the gates of the Chaos Shrine.

“While it is Final Fantasy, it feels different—but there’s no doubt that the blood of Final Fantasy runs through its veins,” said Tetsuya Nomura, Creative Producer for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. “We’ve undertaken the challenge of finding this difficult middle ground for this mature and stylish title. We need a little time until we’re able to complete it, and while the battle system is a bloody one, it does link to the story, so I hope you’ll use this opportunity to give it a try.”

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin  will launch in 2022.
