With STEINS;GATE‘s 15th anniversary underway, STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT, a reboot of the 2009 original game, was announced during an anniversary concert “STEINS;GATE 15th Live: One World” in Matsudo City, Chiba, Japan. A one-minute teaser trailer revealed the game will launch in 2025, with no platforms or a Western release window announced.
Details are pretty sparse since it’s still early, but publisher Mages says the reboot will have “new graphics and some additional story elements.” The original game launched in Japan on October 15th, 2009, for the Xbox 360 and later released on PC, PSP, iOS, PS4, PSVita, Android, and PS4.
The game’s story and its sequel STEINS; GATE 0, were later adapted into a 24-episode anime series. The science fiction story follows a group of college students in Akihabara in the summer of 2010 who discover a way to time-travel by sending messages into the past through a microwave. Later, this evolves into sending memories into the past with the organization SERN, which learns of it and wants it for itself.
