Star Wars Zero Company released late last week and is even a top selling game on Steam, usually be a celebratory time for the studio. It’s another story on the inside, as according to a report from Stephen Totilo via the Game File, the game’s developer, Bit Reactor was furloughed weeks before Star Wars Zero Company‘s launch.
A Bit Reactor representative confirmed the outlet’s reporting but not the actual number of people impacted and said it was “difficult decision” but emphasized that it was the developer’s call rather than the licensed Star Wars game’s publisher, EA or Disney, which owns Star Wars.
What we do know is that according to one of the Game File’s sources is up to 80 per cent of the team were impacted, the only ones left are a skeleton crew rolling out post-launch updates fixing any bugs in the game. The reason behind the decision is that the 2021 formed studio ran out of money before its first game even came out. As for how the final product turned out, we actually reviewed Star Wars Zero Company, and it’s a great turn-based tactical spin on Star Wars with an 85 on Metacritic.
“Overall, Star Wars Zero Company is an incredible new entry in the Star Wars universe. It’s everything that makes Star Wars great: tense fights, fantastic characters, and a narrative that had me gripped to the end. Every class type is viable and important, but more than that, you really grow to care about Hawks and the company they keep. Star Wars Zero Company is an incredible Star Wars game and a genuinely fantastic tactical RPG I just couldn’t put down,” Matt said in our Star Wars Zero Company review.
Star Wars Zero Company launched on August 27th, 2026, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
