Yesterday Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment announced Star Wars Outlaws, and today at Ubisoft Forward, we got our first proper look at how it will play in a meaty 10-minute gameplay walkthrough.
Taking in the original Star Wars trilogy, specifically between the events of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, will see players follow the journey of an outlaw, Kay Vess (played by Humberly Gonzalez), who finds herself making her way into a hideout looking for loot during Star Wars Outlaws’ gameplay debut. After a couple of minutes of sneaking, not too long after, it’s realized she is no solid Snake as she’s found out, and this short stealth game turns quickly into a space western shootout, we see her change her bolt type on the fly during this. Deciding to run away, Kay, alongside her furry alien companion, Nix, acquires her hoverbike while shooting enemies as Kay manages to escape.
Afterward, we are introduced to Star Wars Outlaws’ vast open world on Toshara. afterward, she meets up with her cloak-wearing droid companion, ND-5, at a bar to meet with an information broker and an Empire official. It’s here where Mass Effect-like branching dialogue choices are confirmed. The walkthroughKay decides not to bribe the Empire after being blackmailed, leading to a Grand Theft Auto-like ‘Wanted’ notification letting the player know the Empire has their eyes on the game’s protagonist and is coming after you as a threat.
You have no choice but to go off-world with your companions, and this is where you’re introduced to a taste of Star Wars Outlaws’ space combat as tie fights attempt to attack your ship. We got a lot of Star Wars Outlaws’ first gameplay showcase, with hopefully more to be shown later as we get close to the game launch, which is set to release sometime in 2024 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
