EA and Respawn promised a first look at upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order at E3 and at EA Play, they did just that. The studio presented a raw gameplay reel of around 15 minutes of gameplay, roughly three hours into the campaign.
While the game looks fantastic, I’m not sold yet. Sure, the gameplay looks neat, and force powers are usually a blast, but, I need more. Force push, deflecting lasers, slowing down time and combat are all part of Cal’s skill set, and the young Padawan loves impaling the Empire on his lightsaber. My main takeaway is that gameplay is methodical and slower than say, The Force Unleashed, where the action was chaotic and frenetic.
With Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, exploration is linear. Cal follows a path from the beginning of the demo but isn’t guided by any compass or map. This comes as a more natural way of exploring Kashyyyk, as seen in the demo.
As it stands, I’m not convinced on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Nothing shown to the public took my breath away and sold me as being a day one pick up. I’m a huge fan of Respawn, but there isn’t anything distinct shown off, nothing that makes me want to put my money down right away. I could also be wrong, and I’ll be keeping an eye out on this as we inch closer to release.
We’ll see how this title shapes as before launching on November 15 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
