Square Enix confirmed today that when Star Ocean The Second Story R launches later this year, it’ll use the PlayStation Portable’s English and Japanese dubs in addition to the original Japanese dub with new lines recorded by the cast.

I’m a bit disappointed that we’re not getting the original PlayStation dub from when it launched in 1998, as it has some of the most iconic voice lines the series has had.
While it isn’t much, Square Enix has already shown off Claude and Rena‘s voices in English, and they sound great.
Set in a distant future, Star Ocean: The Second Story R follows the journeys of two main characters: Claude C. Kenny, the son of a famous Earth Federation officer, and Rena Lanford, a young girl from the underdeveloped planet of Expel. The game offers a branching narrative, allowing players to choose which character to play, each offering a unique perspective on the story.
Star Ocean: The Second Story R is launching on Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC on November 2, 2023.
