Square Enix took over the PlayStation Blog to detail several new features coming to Star Ocean The Second Story R next week. This includes Assault Actions, New Game+ and more!
One other significant new change coming next week is Assault Actions. First, you must obtain jewels in-game associated with each protagonist within the Star Ocean series. Once you receive the jewel, you can summon the heroes to deal additional damage in battle.
Next is New Game+, which allows you to unlock endings even more quickly. Once you clear the story and defeat the final boss, you can select the mode from the title screen and keep all your items.
Character items and status that will be carried over:
– Player level, SP/BP, skill level, skill acquisition/enhancement status
– Weapons, armour, accessories, FOL, valuables, all other items, the intimacy of each character – Various picture book achievement rates, etc.
You will lose access to fast travel points across the map, Private Action progress, treasures already acquired, pickpocket usage, Cynard usage, special moves and symbology stats.
Alongside a complete graphical overhaul, Star Ocean The Second Story R is getting new music from Motoi Sakuraba, an updated Japanese dub, and new battle mechanics.
As either Claude C. Kenny or Rena Lanford, you’ll embark on an adventure on the planet of Expel. Their paths cross when Claude is transported to Expel by a mysterious device and meets Rena, who believes he is the legendary hero of light. Together, they journey to save Expel from a cosmic threat known as the Sorcery Globe.
It was initially released for the PlayStation in 1998 and remastered for the PSP as Star Ocean: Second Evolution in 2008.
Star Ocean The Second Story R launches on Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC on November 2, 2023.
