Square Enix Promises More Xbox Support

Square Enix CEO Takashi Kiryu was joined by director Naoki Yoshida and Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer at Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest 2023.

“First off, I have to thank you, Phil-san, for working with us to make the Xbox version of Final Fantasy 14 a reality,” Kiryu said. “This project wouldn’t have been possible without Phil’s support.”

“I think I can speak for myself, [Yoshida], and all of our Warriors of Light here watching the live stream when I say how excited I am to see Xbox support added and for us to welcome countless new friends to the world of Final Fantasy 14,” says Kiryu. “Final Fantasy 14 is only going to get bigger and better, so all the Xbox gamers out there, I urge you to give Final Fantasy 14 a try.

“And one more thing, as CEO of Square Enix, we want to continue to deliver fabulous games to fans across the world, and of course, we want to welcome the Xbox community as well, starting with today’s announcement of Final Fantasy 14 coming in Spring 2024, and whenever possible, we are planning to bring our games to Xbox for players around the world to enjoy. We’re really looking forward to working closely with Phil and the Xbox team to make this possible.”

“It’s great to be here with so many Warriors of Light; thank you for the warm welcome. The Xbox community is passionate about games, and like so many players worldwide, the Final Fantasy series gets lots of love from Team Xbox,” says Spencer. “We’re very happy to announce the Xbox version of Final Fantasy 14 with my friend Yoshida-san here today.  Together with his team, we are bringing the best online experience for this game to Xbox fans everywhere and through crossplay, you can experience Final Fantasy 14 with old and new players alike.”

“We see this as a seminal moment in our relationship with you [Square Enix] and the Final Fantasy team as we look to partner more closely together in the future,” continues Spencer.

On Xbox, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 14 includes 4K support on Series X and fast loading. An open beta is scheduled for Spring 2024 via Patch 6.5x.
