Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Teams Sit Down In Latest Creator to Creator Series

The first of a two-part show

With the turbulent and often frustrating news coming out of studio layoffs already in 2024, it’s refreshing to see a game studio and their movie making counterparts sit down and discuss their most recent creation.

Members of Insomniac Games who created Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sat down with the directors of Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse and the VP of Marvel Games for a two-part series from Sony called Creator to Creator.

In the first 10 minute segment, the seven chat everything from Venom and the Symbiote, lessons from Marvel artists, how visual technology has come so far in recent years, and more!

Part 1 kicks off with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Senior Animation Director Bobby Coddington, speaking about how he owned a VHS of How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way. A shared story about inspiration and artistic approach kicks off a lively discussion about individual artistic approaches and how it creates fresh and exciting experiences.

The group dives into a number of different challenges that are now at the forefront, with the art and technology being so much easier and accessible through improved programs. Evidently, creating and explaining interesting and complex stories is number one.

One of the deepest dives in the discussion includes Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Senior Art Director Jacinda Chew, who says she needed to spend about five years trying to conceptualize and create the Symbiote for the game. Looking at past comics and movies, she and her team created what we now know from the final product.

If you want to dig into even more great discussion, check out the video above and stay tuned for Part 2 coming February 5th.
