French developer Midgar Studio and their equally French Developer, Nacon, are pleased to announce that five tracks from the original soundtrack for their upcoming JRPG Edge of Memories have landed on all major streaming platforms.
In addition, there’s a new visualizer of game locales and concept art out on YouTube, and set to “The Rift,” a new song from the game’s composer, Cédric Menendez — featuring vocals from Emi Evans (NieR / NieR: Automata) and Marion Schneider (Edge of Eternity / Temtem), who can be heard across several of the OST’s tracks.
Edge of Memories has something of a gaming super group working on its development, with several developers returning from Midgar Studios’ 2021 JRPG Edge of Eternity, as well as legendary devs from Chrono Trigger, NieR, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Final Fantasy XV.
Likewise, the OST features legendary musical talent from the games above, including Mariam Abounnasr (Xenoblade Chronicles 3 / ONINAKI), who composes four tracks, and Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger / Xenogears), who offers the final theme.
“Composing the original soundtrack for Edge of Memories has been a true pleasure for me as a JRPG enthusiast. Translating the game’s strong themes into music was an exciting challenge. To me, music is above all an amplifier of emotions: in a game, it must accompany every moment — whether exploration, cutscenes, or combat — in order to convey a wide range of feelings and fully immerse the player in the universe.” Says Cédric Menendez, composer at Midgar Studio, in a press release. “By layering compositions, the music can evolve naturally from one scene to another—for example, when a confrontation begins and ends. The goal is for it to support the story and remain in harmony with the narrative, its world, and its characters. Collaborating with talented artists who have worked on iconic titles in the genre has also enriched the overall soundtrack.”
Today’s album is titled The Discovery Edition EP. It features the following tracks:
- “Edge of Memories” – the game’s opening theme, composed by Cédric Menendez and performed by Marion Schneider
- “Eline’s Journey” – composed by Cédric Menendez, performed by Emi Evans and Marion Schneider
- “The Rift” – composed by Cédric Menendez, performed by Emi Evans and Marion Schneider
- “The Unyielding Flame” – composed by Mariam Abounnasr
- “Fate’s Crooked Smile” – composed by Mariam Abounnasr
Edge of Memories will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam later this year.
