Going hand in hand with the launch of the PlayStation 5 is the reveal of a new PlayStation Studios logo.
Sony says the new logo will be in place of PlayStation’s first-party offerings on the new console and upcoming video games The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima will not have the new logo. In the video, we see an inspired opening that resembles the Marvel Cinematic Universe which uses a glimpse of properties Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, God of War, Ratchet & Clank, Horizon: Zero Dawn and The Last of Us.
Speaking to GamesIndustry, Eric Lempel, senior VP and head of global marketing spoke to the website about the new design. To unite the high-quality titles developed under Sony’s umbrella, there needed to be a way to signify to the customer that when they see the logo, they would know its from PlayStation, thus creating PlayStation Studios.
“You’ve seen the animated asset that will exist primarily during the beginning of our titles, but the brand will exist in a lot of different places,” says Lempel. “There are different, shorter animations that will exist in trailers… It will exist in advertising. It will be in any other creative assets, such as the game packaging and the game discs themselves.”
