Sony Interactive Entertainment is looking to expand its footprint in the audio realm as the company has announced it has agreed to acquire the audio technology brand and high-end gaming headphones company Audeze for an undisclosed amount, according to a BusinessWire press release.
The deal won’t just help the Santa Ana, California-based company but Sony itself as the company says the acquisition will help strengthen and innovate the PlayStation brand’s approach to audio in its games. As a part of the deal, nothing is changing as Audeze will still run as an independent entity while continuing to develop and release its products for multiple platforms, all the while contributing to PlayStation’s ecosystem in a significant way.
“Audeze is a premier brand for headphones, and this acquisition highlights Sony Interactive’s focus on innovation and providing the best audio experience to PlayStation players. We’re excited to bring Audeze’s expertise into the PlayStation ecosystem, building on the great strides we’ve made with PlayStation 5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech and the Pulse 3D wireless headset,” Sony Interactive Entertainment vice president of Platform Experience, Hideaki Nishino, said in a statement.
As for Audeze, the company’s CEO, Sankar Thiagasamudram, says the acquisition created a “unique opportunity to scale our business as we continue our mission to deliver best-in-class headphones to recording professionals, audiophiles, and gamers.” He adds that the company is looking forward to contributing and collaborating with Sony on its audio approach in the PlayStation brand realm. With PlayStation’s Pulse headset already offering PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech after the PlayStation Pulse Elite’s release, it will be interesting to see what Audeze will bring to the table with a hopeful new expanded high-end PlayStation headset coming in the future as a part of this newly acquired collaboration.
