We’re Getting a Third Sonic the Hedgehog Film + New Live-Action Series

Paramount Pictures and Sega have revealed that development on a third film is underway, ahead of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, a sequel to the live-action series introduced in February 2020. We’re also getting a live-action series that will premiere in 2023 on Paramount+.

“We are delighted to announce that the third Sonic theatrical film and the first live-action Sonic series for Paramount+ are being actively developed. We’ve got a remarkable partnership with Paramount, and we are excited to continue expanding the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise with them,” says Haruki Satomi CEO of Sega. “2022 is shaping up to be a significant year for the franchise with the second film being released this April, as well as Sonic Frontiers, the highly anticipated video game title, coming this holiday. Sonic has been beloved by fans across the world for over 30 years and we look forward to continuing to bring memorable moments and experiences to them for many years to come.”

Following Sonic the Hedgehog 2, a live-action series starring Idris Elba as Knuckles will launch in 2023.

Remember how the first movie was received after seeing the original design for a live-action Sonic? I’m glad the studio and director decided to listen because the first film while not perfect, is a fun video game adaption to film that unlike Uncharted, doesn’t take itself too seriously.

For fans looking to see the Blue Blur in a new video game, Sonic Frontiers is scheduled to launch at some point this year.

I’m happy to see Sonic doing so well.
