Ascend The Shinra Tower - Final Fantasy 7

Square Enix’s Ascend The Shinra Tower – Final Fantasy 7 Board Game Out In 2027

I’ve got to hand it to Square Enix; whenever I think they are done with finding new ways to sell us new games and products inspired by 1997’s Final Fantasy 7, they find another way to do it, and they do it with increasingly wild titles.

Nearly 30 years into the IP’s run, it shows no sign of ever toppling over.

You know what’s showing very obvious signs of toppling over, though?

Square Enix’s new cooperative balance board game, Ascend The Shinra Tower – Final Fantasy 7.

Much like Cloud and his Avalanche friends, whom, by now, you all know very well do early on in the admittedly amazing JRP, you must work together with your fellow players to assemble “Floor Tiles” and “Wall Tiles” in order to build a representation of Shinra Tower that looks like it’s straight out of early-’00s Nickelodeon.

Build the wooden blocks, featuring original chibi art personally overseen by Tetsuya Nomura, the creator of the original story concept and character designer for Final Fantasy 7.

As you build the required eight floors to win, you’ll run into trouble from 29-year-straight winners of “Bromance of the Year” Turks Reno and Rude, as Shinra Tower threatens collapse!

Make it all the way to the top to face a great challenge from emo heartthrob Sephiroth, and save the planet from crisis!

Ascend The Shinra Tower – Final Fantasy 7 is playable solo or with a group of up to five players.

A single playthrough is reported to last between 15 and 30 minutes.

The game is set to rise January 2027, but preorders are open now!
