Shin Megami Tensei V

Atlus Releases New Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Trailer

Atlus released a new trailer for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance.

The Survival trailer focuses on gameplay elements, including combat, demons, and the cast.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance offers two story scenarios at the beginning of the game. The first scenario, Canon of Creation, is based on the original Shin Megami Tensei V storyline. In contrast, the second scenario, Canon of Vengeance, has been crafted for the expanded release. Atlus says each scenario begins with the same premise, but the Canon of Vengeance storyline diverges significantly in the second half, leading to a new path.

New story paths in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance adds a new form for Nahobino, voiced by Casey Mongillo. The game also introduces several other characters, including Hayo Koshimizu (Sean Crisden), the prime minister of Japan and the head of Bethel’s Japan branch. Koshimizu grants characters access to the Demon Summoning Program to fight against demons. Abdiel (Cissy Jones), an archangel and the commander of Bethel. She has absolute faith in the order of God and is hard on herself. Shohei Takumo (Ben Lepley) is a mysterious man who calls himself the “exterminator of demons.” He works with the demon Nuwa (Laura Post) and confronts the game’s protagonist. Mastema (Doug Erholtz) is an archangel and a member of Bethel. He is said to have permission from God to tempt humans and is pursuing the Qadištu.

In Shin Megami Tensei V, you can encounter over 270 demons, including new and old ones. Jack Frost’s new form is Nahobeeho, a new demon resembling Nahobino, while Amabie is based on a Japanese yokai from the Edo period appearing in the Higo Province.

The game takes place in Da’at, a netherworld inhabited by demons, within the supposed ruins of Tokyo. The upcoming Canon of Vengeance storyline will introduce a new zone in the former Shinjuku ward, featuring an object resembling a massive tree that creates a sacred atmosphere.

We also learn about exploration within Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. The Magatsuhi crystals are collectibles that replenish different meters. Green crystals recover HP, yellow crystals restore MP, and red crystals increase the Magatsuhi Gauge. The Magatsu Rail is a set of paths between locations in Da’at that allows for shortcuts between locations and access to otherwise unreachable hidden spots. Abscesses are large red obstacles that grow in the player’s path with powerful enemies nearby that can be defeated to awaken new Miracles. Magatsuhi Demons are powerful enemies cloaked in a special aura and drop powerful items.

In Da’at, players can find relics in vending machines that can be exchanged for money and should be taken to Gustave.  Chests containing yellow items can also be found throughout the game, providing players with items and money. Meanwhile, silver items provide Glory, vital for learning new Miracles. In addition to the demon party, players have access to Demon Navigators, which can search for items and Magatsu Rails. The navigators inform players of their findings. Leyline founts in Da’at provide access to Demon Haunts, where the protagonist’s demons gather. Players can interact with the demons through conversations, gift-giving, and photo-taking. Unique conversations may occur based on battles, game progression, exploration, and more, providing stat and ability bonuses.

In Cadaver’s Hollow, you’ll find Gustave (David Errigo Jr.), who buys Relics from you. He will reward you for locating Miman, his relic-seeking pawns, which you are rewarded for depending on how many you find.

The World of Shadows is accessible via the leyline founts, and with the help of Sophia (Erin Yvette), the ruler of the World of Shadows, can perform a fusion to create strong demons.

There are several methods to create new and strong demons in the game, including two-demon fusion that merges two chosen demons, fuse by result that allows one to determine the preferred demon to fuse first, a special fusion that can be performed with up to four demons, and Essence Fusion that utilizes a demon’s Essence to provide additional skills and bonuses.
