During this year’s Sega Fes 2019, an annual event held in Tokyo, the announcement came to light. Sega also revealed a quarter of the 40 titles expected at launch but the lineup is looking good from the start:
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Ecco the Dolphin
- Castlevania: Bloodlines
- Space Harrier 2
- Shining Force
- Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
- ToeJam & Earl
- Comix Zone
- Altered Beast
- Gunstar Heroes
Also revealed at Sega Fes, Sega revealed that M2, the developer working on Sega Ages, is working on the Genesis Mini. It’s based on the original Model 1 Genesis which launched in Oct. 1988 in Japan, Aug. 1989 in North America. Also in the box, two replica three-button USB Genesis controllers, One USB to a Micro-B power cable, One power adapter (North America only), and One HDMI cable.
Curiously, the six-button controllers aren’t coming to the West, and original Genesis controllers do not work with the Mini.
Originally revealed last year during Sega Fes 2018, the Genesis Mini ended up delaying the product in order to improve upon it. Originally, the Mini was to be developed by AtGames, however, after releasing a less than stellar product, M2 took over development duties.
The Sega Genesis Mini is available for pre-order and is priced at $99 CAD.
