Sega Announces Sonic Prime for Netflix

Sonic the Hedgehog is returning to your television screens in 2022 as the blue blur has a new television series in the works over at Netflix.

Other than the logo being revealed today, we don’t know much about the series and what it potentially may focus on. The series is currently in development at WildBrain Vancouver (go Canada!) with together with Sega will participate across production, distribution, and licensing. Man of Action Entertainment, who worked on Ben 10, have been confirmed to be showrunners and Executive Producers on Sonic Prime. The series will have a 24-episode count and builds upon the momentum of Sonic 2020, with 2021 being the brand’s official 30th anniversary.

“Sonic is a beloved character and holds a special place in everyone’s heart including my own,” says Dominique Bazay, Director of Original Animation at Netflix. “I spent many hours with the blue blur as a kid and it’s a privilege to be able to bring this character everyone knows and loves on a brand new adventure with Netflix—one that a generation of loyal fans and brand new fans around the world can enjoy.”

The reveal comes just days after former Sonic voice actor Roger Craig Smith announced his not-so-mutual departure from the franchise after serving as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog for the last decade.
