Developers of The Messenger, Sabotage Studios have finally pulled back the curtain on their new project and it’s already gotten me excited to get my hands on it.
Revealed at the start of the Spring Equinox, Sea of Stars is a fantasy turned-based RPG set within the same universe as The Messenger but effectively carves out its own corner of that world. It’s also launching with a Kickstarter that’s worth checking out and at the time of this article being written has already raised $81,000 CAD of it’s $133,000 CAD goal.
A tale set around the Children of the Solstice, Sea of Stars is a game focused on engaging combat and exploration, with a focus on freedom of movement. Playing as Valere and Zale, youths fated to become Solstice Warriors. Combining their Sun and Moon powers to perform Eclipse Magic, they are pledged to fight the monstrous creations of the evil alchemist known as The Fleshmancer.
Sea of Stars will challenge players in battle, having them coordinate adaptive strategies, and pre-emptive strikes against enemies, and with carefully time strikes that will stop enemies in the place. There are six playable characters, each with their own distinct fighting style and personality. There’s no need to grind to unlock a character’s true potential, either, as character progression is balanced to flow along with the story. Sea of Stars’ journey prioritizes meaningful encounters over enduring dozens of the same fights.
