Local developer Cellar Door Games has revealed that later this month, the Early Access title Rogue Legacy 2 will be leaving and officially launching on April 28. To mark the occasion, the first game will be made free on Epic Games Store today.
“Rogue Legacy 2 is finally reaching v1.0 and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out,” said Cellar Door Games in a press release. “Our goal for Rogue Legacy 2 was always to make ‘Rogue Legacy 3‘ because we didn’t want to settle for just more. It had to stay true to the original but also stand on its own as something new. After nearly four years of development, bringing it to the fans is the final step in this long journey, and we hope they find it as special as we do.”
When it launched, Rogue Legacy offered a neat take on the roguelike as it starred a family of adventures with each subsequent hero inheriting traits from their parents. One hero might have dyslexia, making the in-game text harder to read or vertigo where the map is mirrored.
The sequel is improving on these aspects while also introducing 2.5D environments and also 3D characters using a hand-drawn style. We can also expect heirlooms to shake the formula up as these special items give your character new abilities to discover the world.
Rogue Legacy 2 is set to launch on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S later this month.
