ROG Xbox Ally Drops A Handful Of Updates Bringing Improved Docking, Auto Super Resolution, and an All-in-One Library with Other PC Storefronts

It’s been more than half a year since Microsoft partnered up with ASUS to release the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X this past October. Since then, both versions of the Xbox handheld have received updates that have optimized more games for the device, alongside new features. Now, in an Xbox Wire post, it has been announced that it’s dropping a couple more updates based on player feedback that will improve the ROG Xbox Ally TV docking experience, add Auto Super Resolution, and bring other PC storefronts into one library.

Starting off with how playing on TV is changing a bit, players who dock their ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will now see their handheld display turn off as the output transitions to your TV plus controller pairing when playing docked has also been improved. Alongside that, smart TVs will automatically enable in-game enhancements like low-latency, high-quality visuals to pop on the bigger display. A new display widget has been added to the game bar, allowing players to control display resolution, refresh rate, and projection mode in a more console-style experience. A new game cursor has been added as part of the update.

It doesn’t end there, as Auto Super Resolution for ROG Xbox Ally X has been added as part of an Xbox Insider preview. The new feature will no longer require players to choose between performance and graphics in two separate modes, as it brings the best of both worlds in a single mode that is set to deliver “1440p-like detail [to visuals] alongside smooth frame rates on larger screens.” Alongside that, ROG Xbox Ally players will now be able to stream audio with super-wideband stereo voice fidelity over a Bluetooth connection, which will also improve battery life. An update will also bring enhanced vibrations and in-game haptic effects, described as feeling “richer and smoother.”

Finally, there are so many storefronts on PC that Microsoft has refreshed its Xbox PC App to bring them under one roof in an all-in-one library giving more immediate access to your other installed games. Additionally, in the update, ROG Xbox players will be able to “add, remove, edit, and launch any installed game or app directly from the Xbox experience – including games from other PC gaming storefronts and launchers.”
