Sega and developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio held RGG Summit 2023 late last night, revealing new details around Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name
He started with Masayoshi Yokoyama, an executive producer on the title, thanking fans for their continued support of the series. We were then shown a trailer for Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. We see Kazuma Kiryu undercover as Joryu, having had to fake his death to protect his loved ones.
We saw a new look at combat, including Kiryu’s traditional Yakuza fighting stance as he takes on groups of enemies and uses signs, bikes, and more to annihilate anything in his path. It’s all pretty standard stuff at this point for returning players, so they know what to expect.
A second video at RGG Summit Summer 2023 introduced Joryu’s Agent fighting stance, which focuses on speed instead of brute force. This style is from the Daidoji Faction and is inspired by different martial arts worldwide. It mixes gadgets to dispatch enemies.
Executive Producer Yokoyama retook the stage to reveal a three-year time jump from Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and move to Sotenbori, Osaka, as the setting with additional segments happening in Osaka.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Next, Kazuhiro Nakaya, who plays Ichiban Kasuga, discusses the recently announced Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealthat this year’s Xbox Games Showcase. Executive Producer Yokoyama then confirms that Ichiban indeed wakes up in a country outside of Japan (likely Hawaii), and we’ll once again see Ichiban rise through the ranks as he’s essentially once again thrown through the wringer.
A trailer shows a scene between Kiryu and Ichiban, this time discussing something on the roof of a building. It seems like Ichiban describes a failed engagement with Saeko, and it wasn’t good to the point that he apologized to her. Ichiban interjects that he doesn’t think Kiryu is a ladies’ man, with Kiryu responding, “Well, give me some credit… I’ve been around a few times.”
The scene then reveals at some point in Kiryu’s life, he had proposed to someone, with Ichiban frantically asking who Kiryu had proposed to. The scene ends there as we return to the stage at RGG Summit.
Sega closed the show by confirming that RGG Summit Fall 2023 is happening in the coming months.
