I can get behind integrating technology into the house, even more so when it’s literal. I’m glad I got to try out TP-Link’s Wi-Fi Smart Plugs. It’s a good idea and it’s something I want to incorporate more into the house now that I’ve had some time to play around with having one in the house. The best part? It’s very affordable!
What the Smart Plugs allow you control of the power coming from that plug. If you have a lamp that you want on a timer, well, here’s how you get that; you might be running late one day and forget to physically turn the lamp off, the Kasa mobile app syncs up and allows you to remotely turn the lamp off.
What amazed me when I first opened the box for the smart plug was how small the packaging was and secondly how little instruction came with the unit. Setting up the plug takes minutes and is very straightforward.
Once the smart plug is ready to go, all you need to do is connect the desired appliance to it and connect them. This would make things much easier if you want to use one for Christmas lights, or to ensure a charger turns off once it’s done. There’re many ways to bring the Wi-Fi Smart Plug into your home.
The Kasa application that works in tandem with the smart plug is sleek and well designed. You can create scenes depending on what you have plugged in. Want your lights to turn on when you take up? Create a scene! Too tired to turn off the lamp before bed? Make a scene! You can even dim the lights during a game or movie session.
I hooked up the Wi-Fi a few other things, my television and my massage chair to similar results, the device works like a charm.
The only thing I’m not sold on is the thickness and size of the smart plug, it’s bigger than I’d like and there fitting certain plugs could be troublesome.
TP-Link’s Wi-Fi Smart Plug is affordable and reliable. The device is easy to set up and situate in your home.
The only downfall, like I mentioned above, is the size of the smart plug and is a very solid stepping stone on the road to automating your home.
