Review: TP-Link AC3150 Wireless MU-MIMO Gigabit Router

TP-Link’s AC3150 is a beastly Wi-Fi router. Between streaming videos on YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, or downloading a game from Steam, browsing the web or checking my email. All of these things are growing to be bigger bandwidth hogs and by today’s standard, this is a big issue in many households.

This is where the TP-Link AC3150 shines, providing blissful 3.1Gbps on dual channels. Both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz are supplied well and allow for 4K streaming, downloading and online gaming. The capabilities of an MU-MiMO router provide a stable connection to everyone connected to the router, allowing for a comfortable experience using the internet.

The sleek design is eye catching, the two-tone finish of matte and gloss black leaves some room for improvement, leaving the AC3150 susceptible to fingerprints. It’s a beautiful piece of technology that comes with four adjustable and removable antennas, with four Gigabit Ethernet ports on the rear, both 2.0 and 3.0 USB ports on the left side of the router and all the indicators for your router on the top; you can see what band you’re currently on, internet connectivity and whether the USB is active.

Inside the device, you’ll find a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor as well as a 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz processor. These three processors create what allows each user to experience a stable connection barring lag latency issues.

In a house of four, numerous devices are all connected to the router – this allows for a ton of traffic at any time of day and it’s always a battle of who is downloading what and if they can pause whatever it is so someone else can watch a movie or browse the web. The AC3150 expels the problem and creates a much happier environment with less complaining.

Assembly is easy, after everything is put together you bring up the web-based interface like any other router and the best part is how basic and easy to understand the menus are. I have always been wary of messing around in the settings of the router as I’ve been intimidated by the menus and settings within.

The AC3150 has some really cool features you can utilize for your home network. Smart Connect automatically assigns a device to the optimal band frequency to make sure your network doesn’t get hindered.

The USB ports allow you to plug in media devices and share the content wirelessly throughout your house.

Beamforming helps by providing better coverage – your signal is broadcast omnidirectional allowing for consistent connection in any room.

You can create a specific guest network that keeps your internal connection away from unauthorized users. This is a welcome feature – allowing my friends to use my home internet without having to connect to my private connection.

Parental Controls work easily and allow for parents to control what their kids do while surfing the web.

TP-Link’s AC3150 is one of the best routers I’ve used to date. It’s a capable, sleek, and worthy piece of technology to have to support your needs. If you want something that will provide you lag-free experience gaming and streaming simultaneously. My family is happy, and all it took was this brilliant router to bring everything together.
