Ubisoft Montreal is taking over development on the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake from the Ubisoft Mumbai team. The news comes in an official Tweet from the Montreal account development heads back to “the birthplace of the epic Sands of Time trilogy.”
Having been announced over two years ago, the only news we’ve gotten is about the game’s troubled development, with multipledelays leaving fans wondering if the remake is turning into vaporware.
“We want to thank you for all the continuous support and patience throughout the development,” Ubisoft’s statement says. “Rest assured that we will update you on the progress in a future update.”
What isn’t clear is whether or not this means development is starting from scratch or the team at Ubisoft Montreal will continue to develop on the existing work done by the Mumbai team.
Since being revealed in September 2020 at a Ubisoft Forward event, the reveal was met with criticism regarding the game’s graphics and visuals. Months later, Ubisoft would delay the project to touch up the very things fans were upset with but left no date to look forward to.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time launched in 2003 and was met with critical acclaim. It spawned two sequels with one being a movie tie-in to Disney’s Prince of Persia film.
