PlayStation Announces A New Initiative To Support Indie Developers
PlayStation has announced a new program called the Development Hardware Loan Program to help indie developers bring their games to the ecosystem.
Greg Rice, the Head of PlayStation Creators, says that the goal is to “lower the barrier of entry and improve the process for publishing on PlayStation.”
With the new initiative, partners will now have a far easier time applying and potentially receive a PS5 development kit and one PS5 testing kit.
“It is our continued goal to make PlayStation the best place to publish and play games of all shapes and sizes,” says Rice. “Over the past couple of years, we have been thrilled to support our external publishing partners with features in Indie Spotlight events, indie montage videos on our social channels, dedicated space for PlayStation Indies on PlayStation.com, and have been working to reduce the time it takes to get a new developer on-boarded on PlayStation.”
Developers who want to get their games on PlayStation consoles can apply here.
While it’s not clear how long these development kits will be loaned out to developers, it’s a great program that should allow more developers to deliver their games on PlayStation. Another thing that I noticed while glossing over the details is that Sony didn’t really make it clear who is eligible to apply.
We’ll report back if we hear more but in the meantime, Sony has the right idea with this new program.
